PVCI is going to put on another Boot Camp on August 15, 2009! The Event is called the George Knox Memorial Boot Camp after the late George Knox. George was an outstanding member of PVCI who had an idea of introducing new members and thiose that were interested yet probably were still learning the ropes concerning predators & predator calling by having teaching classes out in-the-field. Sort of along the lines of what Marvin Robbins does for the turkey hunters. It is an idea that has paid off and the Camps are usually well attended and received. The sad thing is that I believe that George passed away before the 1st Boot Camp ever happen. There is more information in the July-August Predator Tales Newsletter.

Yes the "Boot Camp" is on again. It will be back at Blue Ridge this year, the same place we used to have our campout BBQ at. This year we are going back to the basics that made the camp so great. We will have Ray and Chris talking about the special gun safety concerns when predator hunting. Dan and Jake will be handling the calling aspects. Bob and Terry will be doing the gadgets we use, like types of camo, chairs, shooting sticks, etc. Rich and Tyler will be doing the stand identification and habitat.
It will be a bring your own food and drink outing, unless we recieve grant money from AZGFD. But the hunting will still be on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
George Knox had a wonderful idea with his vision of this boot camp. It has grown each year we have had it. Other clubs from the region are even sending representatives to see how we do it, so they can do the same for their clubs. George was too sick to see the first camp and had left us by the time the second one came along. I'm suure he is looking down on us to see what we will make of his "Baby".

Hey all of you new or curious to predator calling , do NOT forget the BOOT CAMP on August 15th, 2009. This will be an outdoors, in-the- field seminar-type Camp with topics on practically all aspects of predator calling. The Camp will be down past the Blue Ridge Ranger Station off of Hwy. 87 in unit 5A. For more directions see the July-Aug. Predator Tales Newsletter.

The George Knox Memorial Boot Camp was a great success again this year. We had a great time together. We went through the normal curriculum, Gun safety and Novice ettiquette by Ray E. and Chris H. ; What we use when we hunt by Bob B. ; Calling what when where and for what by Dan J. and Jake J. ; Stand identification, biology, and coyote vocalizations by Rich H. and Tyler H. ; Hunting with a shotgun by Gary C.
The weather was perfect. Ray and Donna M. harvested a gray fox and gave a skinning demonstration Sunday morning. That was a huge hit.
My thanks to all the presenters and novices alike. Without your interest and participation the George Knox Memorial Boot Camp would not be.
Great idea George, thank you.

Great job Chris. The novice turn out was poor, but allot of experts showed up to exchange information and learn different tactics. Its a shame that some novices either think they have it figuired out or just didnt want to show up because its to far, interfered with golfing etc etc. I think next novice boot camp I would like to see a novice participation list to see if its worth my time. I think a expert bootcamp would be a more enjoyable time if nothing else the turnout would be better and I garrantie we would have fun.

Chris, as a novice I would like to thank you for keeping the boot camp going. I've attended the last three and have learned a great deal at every one. All of the speakers gave me new knowladge that I hope to use well this season. Not to mention the wealth of information shared around the camp fire each night. Thanks again and I look forward to greater success do to your hard work and the dedication of our clubs experts.
